• Fixed problem where you could not load a play-by-e-mail game created by the Windows version. This is now fixed. However, as a side-effect, play-by-e-mail games that were created on the Mac in old versions of SMACX will no longer load with this release. If you are in a PBEM game with Mac-only players that you started in the older version, you'll have to finish that game in the older version of SMACX. New PBEM games started in this version do not have that problem.
• Added some higher manual refresh rate settings, needed by some newer monitors.
• You can now bring up the initial "Options" dialog by holding down the command key at startup. The old method of holding down the option key is still supported as well.
• Added fix for black/white issues with MacOS 9.1.
• Improved timing characteristics for high-latency net games. Still not perfect, but it should be better.
• You can now choose which monitor you'd like to play on via the Options dialog. Note that this only applies when you are running the game fullscreen and not in a window.
• Added ability to prevent the "ESC" key from attempting to quit SMACX. To configure this, hold down the 'option' or 'command' key immediately after starting SMACX and check the appropriate box.
• Fixed issue where SMACX would beep and not play movies on some monitors that supported it previously.
• Fixed an issue where SMAC/SMACX would crash when displaying the larger credits file that shipped with SMACX. This typically manifested itself as a crash when you completed a game.
• PC-specific gameplay fixes:
- If you attempted to turn a "native" unit over to the wild (e.g. an Isle of the Deep) and it had units aboard, those units would erroneously be turned wild as well. You must now move those units off the native unit before releasing it to the wild.
1.2 - Initial Release
• Incorporates everything that is in the PC version of Alien Crossfire 2.0, plus some new fixes to the core gameplay that aren't yet in the PC version:
- Urgent Messages no longer repeatedly pop-up.
- (SMACX only) Energy grid calculations for the alien factions now work properly.
- The Secret Project report window no longer displays random info for projects belonging to
bases which have been destroyed.
- Infiltrating a base via "Total Thought Control" will now turn off any designated defenders for that base since they are under new management.
- Starting multiple games in the same session now restores the console to its proper initial state.
- If a faction is eliminated but escapes to continue play, you now remember its commlink frequency.
- It was possible for some units to spontaneously morph into others or be spontaneously reassigned to different bases. This has been fixed.
- The "Select Research Goal" dialog could print out text using the wrong fonts/styles in certain cases. This is now fixed.
- If a pact-brother unit is the top unit in one of your bases, the game will now draw all the units properly in the map window.
- New feature: the base window now displays the support costs, and displays an adjusted energy output based on that.
- Fixed issue where Alien Crossfire could crash when loading certain types of SMAC save-games.
